1 Growth Stock To Buy And Hold In A Market Downturn

By 2022, the broader market index has already fallen sharply. The pandemic caused supply chain disruptions and general inflation. As a result, central banks began raising interest rates to curb inflation and slow economic growth.

This creates some opportunities for long-term investors to buy the best stocks for less money. Shares of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA ) are down 59% from their highs. Nvidia's sales growth accelerated at the start of the pandemic, but has since slowed.

If we look at Nvidia's revenue over a longer period of time, it has grown dramatically from $4.3 billion in 2013 to $27 billion in the most recent fiscal year. Most of the growth has come over the past two years, with revenue up 53% and 61%, respectively.

Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) are used in cars, game consoles and data centers. While Nvidia's chips are still in high demand in data centers, demand for its chips in gaming hardware has fallen sharply as consumer habits change.

Nvidia GPUs are often used in cryptocurrency mining, which rewards users with digital currency in exchange for using computers to perform complex calculations.

Nvidia's profit growth over the past decade has been more impressive than revenue growth. Over the past ten years, the company's EPS has grown at a compound annual growth rate of 32.3%.

The rise of virtual reality gaming, the shift to self-driving cars and some other long-term tailwinds that Nvidia is riding on could boost demand for its GPUs. Nvidia shares are down 59% from their highs.
