CM Punk to Undergo Surgery After Injury

CM Punk's run as AEW world champion hit the road.

Just five days after becoming champion, 43-year-old Punk announced in an episode of Rampage on Friday night that he was injured and needed surgery.

Punk has not left the AEW World Cup, but a temporary champion will be crowned in his absence.

Punk described the injury as a broken "wheel". He promised to return bigger, faster, stronger and hungrier than ever.

With tears in his eyes, Punk spoke to the Rampage crowd. He told the fans that there was good and bad news for them.

"The bad news is that I got injured and had to have surgery. A few things were broken. The biggest one was my heart because I didn't love anything more than to act out for all of you, and I want to go to hell. Bad news," Punk said.

The good news is, I can still do all this. I told you I'd go until the tires ran out. Well, the wheels are still there, they're not worn yet.

Only one of them broke down by accident. But I came back from worse. I feel better than I do now, but I'm here to tell you that I also feel worse.
