If Congress moves forward with a proposal to give publications more power

Negotiate payments from tech platforms that distribute their content

The proposal, which was originally introduced by lawmakers as a separate bill and is now reportedly under consideration

As part of a must-pass annual defense bill, it will allow intelligence companies to negotiate with tech giants.

This distributes their content, including Google and Meta, giving them more power to negotiate favorable business terms.

A Met spokesman issued a blistering statement on Monday announcing any acceleration plans.

The provisions came from the Journalism Protection and Competition Act through Congress

Such a move would force the tech giant to "consider completely removing news content from our platform," Meta said.
