Michael Avenatti Sentenced To 14 years In California Fraud Case

Incarcerated lawyer Michael Avenatti was sentenced Monday to 14 years in prison

In Southern California and was ordered to pay more than $10 million in restitution

After admitting to defrauding four of his clients out of millions of dollars

The sentence is set to run up to five years in prison, which he is currently serving for separate convictions in New York

said U.S. District Judge James V. Selna during a hearing in Santa Ana, California

It was the last of three major federal criminal charges to be filed against the 51-year-old California resident.

Avenatti pleaded guilty earlier this year to four counts of wire fraud and one tax charge, despite failing to reach a plea deal.

With the federal charges, he says he wants to be held accountable and spare his family further embarrassment.
