Rasheed Wallace Agrees to Join Lakers As Assistant Coach, per Report

Former Memphis assistant and NBA star Rasheed Wallace has agreed to join the Lakers as assistant coach, Shams Charania told The Athletic.

Wallace will join new coach Darvin Ham, who won his NBA title in Detroit in 2004.

Despite the agreement, both parties have not yet reached a formal contractual period, according to Charania.

Wallace was drafted by the Washington Bullets in 1995. He retired for the second and last time in 2013 after leaving the Blazers, Hawks, Pistons, Celtics and Knicks Trail.

After his playing career, he became an assistant to the Pistons before joining Memphis in 2021. After a brief stint in college, Wallace returned to the NBA.

Los Angeles' latest assistant is a four-time All-Star player. Wallace has already been tasked with helping Ham get the Lakers back in the post-season.

The Lakers finished last season 33-49 with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook on the list and they need a fresh start.

Despite the agreement, both parties have not yet reached a formal contractual period, according to Charania.
